A SENSE OF SPACE: LISTEN WHEN FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT SPEAKS – POSTHUMOUSLY

DO MODERN CITIES SERVE AS AGENTS OF CULTURE?

In this blog, I occasionally touch on (or tangent somehow) some of the things FLW is discussing in this clip. I think that we all feel them to a degree–perhaps a designer or musician might respond more strongly. Architecture, music, art…They all move us. And when they do not move us, it can affect our beings negatively. Personally, when I listen to this audio clip, it becomes obvious to me that the thoughts and expressions of Frank Lloyd Wright have influenced me more than even I realized. I’ve written enough. Listen to this man…And try to take some time in considering his words.

THE 458 ITALIA

In my opinion, the 458 Italia is Ferrari’s most beautiful design in years. What makes this car so engaging from every angle?…A strong, aggressive stance that remains alluring and inviting. If you look closely at the side view of the car in the photo below, it is readily apparent that Pininfarina spent considerable time analyzing the geometric relationship of the front and rear profiles…

A TRIBUTE TO YOUSUF KARSH

Portrait of Mies – Source
In my opinion, no single photographer in history has mastered the art of environmental portraiture to the degree that Yousuf Karsh did. His lighting and compositional techniques were impeccable and the expressive qualities inherent in his subjects are, often times, remarkable. Capturing the essence of a human being in a singular photographic frame is not an easy task.Read More!

CREATING HARMONIOUS GRAPHICS SYSTEMS

I believe that one of the more difficult and challenging (and therefore one of the more exciting) aspects of environmental graphics involves creating a system that is harmonious within a given environment. This is always a pleasant experience when working with architects that are agreeable in sharing details, renderings and finish schedules. Regardless, projects are generally more successful when you can balance a clarity in information presentation with the existing, or planned, details of the applicable environment.
